I’m a new mum, what do I need to know about nappy rash?

Visit our nappy rash hub to find out more about the condition and how to prevent it.

What is nappy rash?

Nappy rash is an irritation of the skin anywhere usually covered by a nappy, while it might be a little sore for your baby, the good news is that it’s not usually serious.

Babies can be more susceptible during teething, when changing from breast to bottle feeding or when starting on solid foods. To find out more about what causes nappy rash, visit our nappy rash hub.

How can I prevent nappy rash occurring?

There are many good things that you can do to prevent nappy rash! To find out more visit our nappy rash hub.

Are there any products I should avoid using on my baby if I’m also using Sudocrem to treat nappy rash?

There are no known interactions with any other products.

How can I tell if my baby has nappy rash?

Nappy rash normally starts with a slight redness on your baby’s bottom and upper thighs. The skin may be hot to touch and your baby might be a little sore and unhappy. To check the symptoms of nappy rash further, visit our nappy rash hub.

How much Sudocrem should I put on?

Less is more and with Sudocrem a little goes a long way! Only apply a small amount in a thin layer and massage in small circular movements until the Sudocrem has disappeared leaving a translucent film. If the area looks white afterwards, put a little less on next time.

I have heard nappy rash creams may clog nappies, making them less effective – does this happen with Sudocrem?

If Sudocrem is applied correctly (a small amount, applied thinly), there is no evidence to suggest that it will affect a nappy’s ability to absorb urine.

I want to take a smaller pot of Sudocrem on holiday, can I buy a travel size? (UK only)

Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream comes in 400g, 250g, 125g and 60g tubs. The 60g tub is hand luggage compliant, ideal for air travel and holidays in general.
